Fernandi Innovation has questioned today’s food packaging solutions from the start, with a strong vision to improve the environment and public health. They have now gained the support of two strong investors, Almi Invest and AB Bodafors Industrier, who believe the company’s innovation has great potential to revolutionize the packaging industry.
With the new share issue, Fernandi Innovation can further accelerate the development of its innovative product. Carl-Henrik Fernandi, the founder and CEO of Fernandi Innovation, is very positive about the financing:
– We are very proud of the confidence that Almi Invest and AB Bodafors Industrier have shown in us. Almi Invest has a strong sustainability profile, and their decision to invest in our company is a testament to their recognition of the greatness of our innovation. It is also incredibly valuable that Bodafors, with roots in both the forestry and sawmill industries, wants to join us on our journey.
Eliminating Unsustainable Material
With the share issue, the commercialization of the company’s packaging, FERNANDIPAC, continues – a patented packaging solution focused on the food industry. The vision is to help eliminate plastic and other unsustainable materials entirely from packaging that comes into direct contact with food. The current focus is on dry, fatty, and frozen foods. Swedish LantChips AB is one example of a company that has successfully used the new material in its machines.
– Fernandi Innovation has a bright future with a strong patent that can completely eliminate plastics and metals in packaging. This aligns perfectly with what we at Almi want to invest in, says Patrik Kinnbom, Investment Manager at Almi Invest.
The packaging currently used in the food industry often participates in recycling streams but, in practice, leads to limited recycling opportunities. When packaging ends up as litter in nature, it often results in increased levels of microplastics, which ultimately harm both animals and humans. Fernandi Innovation’s vision and business strategy aim to solve these challenges.
– Bodafors Industrier operates within sustainable and renewable forest, wood, and energy sectors. We are always looking for business opportunities and are excited to be part of this journey to phase out plastic in favor of a cellulose-based alternative. This is very timely and diversifies our industrial direction within our corporate group, says Ingemar Wareborn, CEO of Bodafors Industrier.
Simple and Unique Solution
Fernandi Innovation’s packaging solution is fundamentally simple but at the same time unique because it combines well-established materials and barriers with a completely new way of thinking, challenging existing manufacturing methods.
– Simply put, our innovation involves flipping the material. Instead of traditionally placing the barriers against the food, they are placed on the outside of the packaging. This method allows us to replace plastic and aluminum in today’s existing packaging with a fully cellulose-based and bio-based material. The invention makes the packaging lighter, which in itself saves materials. We use less material and have a more efficient manufacturing method, which is good for both the wallet and the environment, says Carl-Henrik Fernandi, adding: My hope is that this will eventually improve public health – globally.
Since 2022, Fernandi Innovation has received support and business development from Kalmar Science Park’s incubator and has had long-term collaborations with other key partners and companies such as Nordic Paper, Sting Bioeconomy, and Groth.
