RISE inaugurates solution for odor-free lignin

RISE (Research Institutes of Sweden) has inaugurated a new technology infrastructure at LignoCity in Bäckhammar dedicated to the production of odor-free lignin – a significant milestone for the bioeconomy and the sustainable materials of the future.

Lignin, a by-product of the pulp and paper industry, can be used in a wide range of products, including bioplastics, biofuels, batteries, carbon fiber, and asphalt. This new technology enables the development of more climate-smart products where odor has previously been a limiting factor.

RISE now offers an advanced testbed for producing lignin of various qualities, providing companies with the opportunity to test and refine their lignin-based solutions.

– This is a highly important step towards enabling the development and testing of climate-smart products. It will be very exciting to follow the continued progress. Congratulations to LignoCity, RISE, and all the partners who made this milestone possible, says Peter Sassner, Sting Bioeconomy.
