Blue Ocean Closures is achieving commercial success and gaining significant international attention. Over the past month, the company’s fiber-based, fully recyclable closures have received three prestigious awards, signaling both technological leadership and market maturity.

At the Recycling Gala 2025, Great Earth and Blue Ocean Closures were named winners of the Packaging of the Year award. The jury’s motivation read: “The dietary supplement company is the first in the world to use a new closure made from recyclable cellulose instead of the colored polypropylene caps previously used. The closure has been developed by Blue Ocean Closures.”
Great Earth, which introduced the fiber cap to its products last year, decided in 2025 to implement the solution across its entire product portfolio. Several other brands in Europe are now also choosing to replace their plastic caps with Blue Ocean Closures’ standard fiber cap for the health-nutrition segment, called NutraCap™.
NutraCap was recently selected as a winner in the Sustainability Awards, sometimes referred to as the “Nobel Prize” for sustainable packaging innovations. Winning in the Recyclable Packaging category further highlights the impact of Blue Ocean Closures’ patented technology in the global transition toward circular solutions.
– Our product is recyclable in the paper stream, the world’s most established recycling system. Commercially available and appreciated by consumers, the fiber caps immediately improve the actual recycling rate, says Ulrika Evermark, CCRO.
As further confirmation of its success, Blue Ocean Closures has also been named a Gold Winner on Ny Teknik’s 33 List 2025, which recognizes Sweden’s best tech startups with verified in-house technology, scalable business potential, and global relevance.
– These awards are each important on their own and demonstrate our solution’s proven recyclability and industrial scalability. Together, they clearly confirm that we are moving quickly and in the right direction, taking our advanced press-forming technology into the next commercial phase, says Lars Sandberg, CEO of Blue Ocean Closures.
With several major collaborations and strong global interest, Blue Ocean Closures continues to establish itself as a leading player in sustainable packaging innovation.
* Startups can be selected for Ny Teknik’s 33 List a maximum of three times; on the third occasion they receive Gold status. Blue Ocean Closures has been listed in 2023, 2024, and 2025.
